There's no shortage of nature-based activities near Lakeshore Resort.

Here's a few of our favorites:

Boating & Swimming

  • Boat Launches: You'll find public boat launches 5 minutes in either directions (Antlers and Sugarloaf)
  • Marinas & Rentals: Antlers is the closest marina to dock your boat or rent
  • Swimming: You can jump in the lake just 1 minute in either direction at 2 different calm inlets. We do not offer direct lake access due to a steep slope.

Caves

  • Shasta Caverns: We highly recommend this tour as it combines nature, views, history, and exploration. It starts with a scenic boat ride across a mountainous stretch of the lake. A scenic bus ride then takes you up the mountain with very unique lake views. At the cave's entrance, you begin your 45-minute tour of various caverns with impressive geological features. Waterfalls, Hikes & Biking

  • McCloud River Falls: Beautiful three-tiered falls with an easy hiking loop. 50 minutes away
  • Burney Falls: One of the best in the state! A further drive (1.5 hours) but worth it, especially in the rainier months
  • Hikes: We recommend driving just 25 minutes north to Castle Crags State Park. Find the Forest Service's full list of Shasta-area hikes here.
  • Mountain Biking: There are plenty of scenic Forest Service roads to explore on your mountain bike. Check out the Forest Service's full list here.

Fishing

Lake Shasta is California’s ultimate "fish factory," offering an elite year-round experience for every skill level. It boasts 365 miles of shoreline and a unique "two-story" ecosystem (warm-water fighters and cold-water giants). More reasons to fish here:

  • Winter Trophy Browns: February and March offer peak opportunities for landing massive Brown Trout.
  • Summer Salmon & Trout: Expert trollers find consistent action with King Salmon and Rainbows in the cool depths.
  • A Bass Angler’s Mecca: Known for aggressive Spotted Bass, the lake’s rocky points draw major professional tournaments. Novices and pros can target Spotted, Largemouth, and Smallmouth bass in a single day.

Redding

We just love Redding, just 25 mins away. It's not only a hub for outdoor recreation, but full of unique experiences for our guests. We recommend:

  • Shasta Dam:  Head south to experience the awe-inspiring scale of California’s largest reservoir at Shasta Dam, where you can take a free guided tour 400 feet underground. It also offers a stunning "Three Shastas" vista: Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, and the snow-capped peak of Mt. Shasta.
  • Mt. Shasta City: Or, head north to Mount Shasta City to experience its unique "New Age" charm and eclectic spiritual vibe while enjoying constant, soul-stirring views of the 14,179-foot volcanic peak from every corner
